{"id":2453,"date":"2015-11-23T21:34:43","date_gmt":"2015-11-23T21:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/?page_id=2453"},"modified":"2022-04-07T10:54:14","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T09:54:14","slug":"promoting-british-values","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/?page_id=2453","title":{"rendered":"Promoting British Values"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/P2230149-Copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2796 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/P2230149-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"147\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Promoting Fundamental British Values in <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Wheatley Nursery School <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Department for Education (DfE) the statutory requirements for early years providers are clear. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs are already implicitly embedded in our curriculum and school&#8217;s ethos. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Separately, the Counter Terrorism and Security Act also places a duty on early years providers \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (the Prevent duty). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/prevent-duty-guidance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following examples illustrate how Wheatley Nursery School follows the \u00a0statutory guidance:<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Democracy:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">making decisions together as part of the focus on self-confidence and self-awareness as cited in Personal, Social and Emotional Development: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/P2230150-Copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2797 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/P2230150-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"198\" height=\"149\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WNS staff encourage children to see their role in the bigger picture, encouraging children to know their views count, value each other\u2019s views and values and talk about their feelings, for example when they do or do not need help. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrating democracy in action&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">children might share views on what the theme of their role play area could be with a show of hands. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staff make and provide activities that involve turn-taking, sharing and collaboration. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children are \u00a0given opportunities to develop enquiring minds in an atmosphere where questions are valued. <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Rule of law<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: As part of the focus on managing feelings and behaviour: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/P2230151-Copy-e1487850215655.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2798 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/P2230151-Copy-e1487850215655.jpg\" width=\"166\" height=\"106\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WNS staff ensure that children understand their own and others\u2019 behaviour and its \u00a0consequences, and learn to distinguish right from wrong. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staff collaborate with children to create the rules and the codes of behaviour, for example, to agree the rules about tidying up and ensure that all children understand rules apply to everyone. <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Individual liberty:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">freedom for all As part of the focus on self-confidence &amp;
