{"id":1502,"date":"2014-10-17T10:43:02","date_gmt":"2014-10-17T09:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/?page_id=1502"},"modified":"2022-05-18T13:52:59","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T12:52:59","slug":"safeguarding-statement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wheatleynurseryschool.org\/?page_id=1502","title":{"rendered":"Safeguarding Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Designated Safeguarding Lead: <b>Stephen Passey (Head Teacher)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Deputy <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Designated Safeguarding Lead: <strong>Judy Whittingham (Nursery Teacher)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Safeguarding Governor is: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Liz Elsom<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he Department for Education (DfE) has published an updated version of its statutory guidance on safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education, which is in force from 1st September 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes a requirement that <\/span><b>all<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> school and college staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. They should also:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aware of systems within their school which support safeguarding and have these explained to them during induction. This includes the child protection and staff behaviour policies, and the role of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aware of the early help process and be prepared to identify children who may benefit from early help<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aware of the process for making referrals to social services<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aware of the signs of abuse and neglect, and of what to do if a child makes a disclosure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Receive appropriate child protection training which is regularly updated<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Always act in the best interests of the child<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We recognise that through their day-to-day contact with children and direct work with families, staff at the school have a crucial role to play in noticing indicators of possible abuse or neglect and referring \u00a0to the appropriate agency. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We do this by<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensuring we know where every child is each day. Please ring and let us know if your child is absent, Mel will ring if we are unsure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Making sure we know the reasons for any bumps, bruises or comments from children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recording late arrival or collection to consider if different arrangements of more support is needed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weekly Child Review Meetings to share information and ensure all necessary actions are taken<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your Key Person is available to ensure your child and family have appropriate support.
